Jacaranda

Jacaranda trees (Jacaranda mimosifolia) are famous for their absolutely stunning, vibrant purple flowers! These blossoms appear in spring and summer, creating a breathtaking spectacle. Unlike many trees that have small, individual flowers, Jacaranda flowers grow in large clusters, almost like fluffy purple fireworks bursting from the branches. They're so beautiful, some cities even plan their events around the jacaranda bloom!

These majestic trees are native to South America, specifically areas like Brazil, Argentina, and Bolivia. They prefer warm, subtropical climates and don't do well in freezing temperatures. That's why you'll often find them gracing the streets and parks of Australia and parts of Southern California – places with sunny skies and mild winters.

During the autumn and winter months, the Jacaranda tree loses its leaves, giving it a more bare and skeletal appearance. But don't worry, it's not dead! The tree is simply resting before the next burst of purple glory in the spring. And did you know the Jacaranda’s seeds are housed in interesting, woody seed pods that look like little brown rattles? They're quite unique and fun to spot once the flowers have faded!
